The churches of Tosside and Slaidburn had a presence at the Hodder Valley Show at Newton in Bowland near Clitheroe in the far west of the diocese with “The Church about the Dale” trailer. The Wensleydale Deanery and Wensleydale Methodists kindly loaned out their trailer to the Bowland-Ewecross Deanery to enable a visible Christian presence at the show. Booking the trailer was very easy by contacting the Leyburn clergy. Voluneers from Slaidburn collected the trailer after a short briefing about its use.

Being sited on the route to the main show ring, many visitors popped in to the trailer to talk to church members, read through various leaflets and sample the free cakes on offer. Many people said how impressed they were with the professional look of the trailer and were appreciative of the Church going out to them rather than the other way round. The Rector of Slaidburn with Tosside, the Rev’d Jonathan Oldfield said, “The church no longer expects people to automatically come to church, so it’s important that the church goes out to where people are and the Hodder Valley Show presented us with one such opportunity of which we took full advantage. I would encourage churches with community activities such as our local show to book the trailer and put their church on show.”
